1. LETHARGY
Abstention from work due to the heaviness of both the body and the mind.
2. AILMENT
Originates from imbalance of the body's constituent elements; a result of defective past karma and unhealthy habits.
3. NEGLIGENCE
Failure to secure or practice the necessary means and methods of yoga.
4. DOUBT
A wavering double perception — "this or that" — an inability to commit to one clear and certain path.
5. UNSTEADY MIND
Instability of the mind due to its engrossment in worldly affairs, even after some ground has been achieved.
6. LACK OF FAITH
An emotionless, indifferent attitude toward the means and methods of yoga — no inner motivation or reverence.
7. ILLUSION
Misconception about one's true goal, the teacher, right knowledge, and good conduct; perceiving self in what is not self.
8. MISERY
Threefold suffering: spiritual, material, and divine. Also includes natural agitation arising from the frustration of desires.
9. DEJECTION
The afflicted state of the mind when overcome by tamas (inertia) or rajas (passion). Overcome through strict detachment.
10. INDULGENCE IN SENSUAL PLEASURES
Stubborn clinging to unworthy objects even while knowing the difference between the worthy and unworthy, making the mind fickle.
